Bacteriological study of the cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) of children with meningitis in Baghdad

The study included 92 samples of CSF taken from children aged 1day to 10 years with meningitis. was conducted in the hospitals Medical City Baghdad. were obtained by a specialized staff. Conventional direct Gram stain and culture tests performed. sample categorized into three group (1day 2 years), (2 6 years) (6 years).
 results test showed that 62 out free bacteria while 30 contained (43% ). Among positive , 43% gram (57%) negative bacteria.
 Escherichia coli (43.4 %) predominant organism. second bacterial agent is Staphylococcus aureus (20%) followed Streptococcus pneumonia (13, 3%). fourth isolates agalactia (10%) Neisseria meningitidis (10 %).The fifth Klebsiella (3.3%).
 most common age for meningitis first (1 old) being main bacterium (40%).
